    Support and troubleshooting

Practical help for using TalkToTextly: which files work, what your browser needs, why mobile can be slower, how exports work, and what stays local.

    Quick help topics

    Supported files

TalkToTextly accepts common audio and video files including MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, WebM, OGG, FLAC, OPUS, and similar browser-readable formats. Files up to 100MB can be selected, but very long recordings still depend on your device memory.

    Browser requirements

Use a current desktop or mobile browser with JavaScript enabled. Chrome and Edge usually provide the strongest WebGPU path; Safari, Firefox, and older devices may use WASM compatibility mode instead.

    WebGPU and WASM fallback

The app tries to run Whisper in your browser with WebGPU when available. If the GPU path is unavailable or unstable, it falls back to WASM, which is safer but slower for long recordings.

    Mobile limits

Phones and tablets have less memory than laptops. Mobile sessions use a smaller local model for stability, and large or noisy files may need to be shortened, compressed, or retried on desktop.

    Exports

After transcription, you can copy the text or download TXT, SRT, VTT, or DOCX files directly from the browser. Review names, numbers, timestamps, and technical terms before sharing the result.

    Privacy basics

No account is required. Normal transcription starts in your browser and uses local processing when your browser and device support it. TalkToTextly is free and ad-supported, so ads, analytics, and diagnostics may use limited metadata, but they must not include your audio, transcript text, or file names.

    Troubleshooting

The model download is slow or stuck

Keep the tab open, check your connection, disable aggressive battery saving, and try again on a stable Wi-Fi network. The first run downloads the AI model; later runs can reuse the browser cache.

    The file will not load

Confirm the file is not corrupted, protected by another app, or larger than your browser can hold in memory. Exporting to MP3 or M4A and retrying often helps.

    Transcription is slow

Long files, older devices, and WASM compatibility mode take more time. Split long recordings, close other tabs, and use Chrome or Edge on desktop when possible.

    The mobile browser reloads

That usually means the device ran out of memory. Try a shorter clip, lower-bitrate audio, or a desktop browser. Keep the screen awake while transcription runs.

    The transcript has mistakes

Use clearer source audio when possible. Background noise, overlapping speakers, accents, names, and technical vocabulary can reduce accuracy, so review important output before relying on it.

The export is missing or empty

Wait until transcription is complete, then try the copy button first. If the browser blocks a download, check pop-up/download settings or retry with another export format.

How the free trust model works

TalkToTextly is free to use, does not require an account, and does not ask for a credit card. The site is supported by advertising and optional analytics consent.

Audio transcription is local-first: the normal path runs in your browser. If a constrained mobile session ever shows a guarded fallback notice and you choose to continue, temporary processing files are deleted after completion or error. TalkToTextly does not provide a cloud account library for storing your recordings or transcripts.
